Scope Awards
Role: Creative Development, Design
MORE THAN A TROPHY
A symbol of progress, pride and possibility.
The 2025 Scope Awards did something a bit different, they put out a call out to Disabled Designers to create an entry to design the Scope Awards trophy. For me I saw this as a great opportunity to design for the community, celebrate the trailblazers and work on something meaningful.
The driving force
The form began with interconnected circular shapes, echoing the shapes in Scope’s recent rebrand identity system. When stacked vertically, they represent community, individuals supporting one another to rise.
When viewed on its side, the same form becomes an abstract ellipse, a visual metaphor for motion and continuation, a nod to the idea that this isn’t the finish line, but a chapter in a larger story.
Each trophy is hand-painted with bold, unpredictable splatters, every one unique. These splatters celebrate the creativity, individuality, and lived experience of disabled people navigating a world not always designed for them, yet still shaping it in their image.
Big Win
Initially, when I was told my entry was chosen for the awards I was floored. Then began the collaboration with the Scope team, the trophy went through various phases to ensure accessibility was right at the forefront of the design. The final piece became a physical expression of Scope’s mission:
Celebrating progress. Honouring people. Amplifying stories.
I was invited to attend the 2025 Scope Awards ceremony where the trophies were presented, a powerful night of recognition, community and hope. Seeing the trophies in the hands of changemakers reminded me why I design, to create with meaning, and for people. Very thankful to all the team at Scope, truly was an honour.
